"EU Health & Cancer Policy Welcome Package"
for Participants of the "ECPC Members in Action 2009" conference

The aim of this 30-page document is to provide a full picture of EU cancer policies and an ongoing reference tool for ECPC Members. It will provide an overview of the legislative procedures and measures.

The package opens in chapter one with an overview of EU Health Policy and its relationship to national law. In this chapter, we set the context by posing certain questions which highlights the gaps in the existing policy.

The second chapter reviews the existing EU policies and legislation. It briefly highlights some of the major legislative packages that directly affect the area. Also it provides a list of initiatives that have emanated from Europe for Cancer patients.

The third chapter provides a brief review of the status of implementation of key legislation in the field of public health.

The fourth chapter highlights the major initiatives in the cancer area.

The fifth chapter summarizes the policy direction that the European institutions have indicated that could be taken if the political will are present.

The final chapter briefly give information about the funding available from Europe.
