ECPC along with other members of the EU Health Policy Forum called on European governments to protect the health and well-being of EU citizens and patients rather than cutting health and social budgets during the current economic crisis.
More cancer screening needed in EU, concludes EC report
The EU Commission adopted its Report on the Implementation of the Council Recommendation on cancer screening. The report shows that although much progress has been made in cancer screening, the EU as a whole is only about half way to meeting the minimum annual number of examinations. EU Council Conclusions on reducing the Burden of cancer adopted 10 June 2008
ECPC welcomes the Council Conclusions agreed under the Slovenian Presidency with open arms. This is the first time that 27 EU Health Ministers have made a firm commitment to tackle cancer control at EU and Member States level. The Conclusions, which are very much in line with the European Parliament Resolution on cancer, call upon Member States to develop and implement comprehensive cancer strategies or plans. Hope for Cancer Patients as European Parliament adopts Cancer Resolution
On 10 April 2008 the European Parliament Health Committee adopted a Resolution on "Combating cancer in the enlarged European Union". MEPs gave their full support to the Slovenian Presidency, which has made cancer one of its EU priorities in 2008. The Parliament called to continue the fight to reduce the cancer burden in Europe, and asked the EU 27 to take a comprehensive and strategic approach to cancer control with a European Task Force.
