8th ESMO Patient Seminar, 9-10 Oct 2010

As in previous years a Patient Seminar will take place on Saturday, 9 October (15:00-19:00) and Sunday, 10 October (9:30-17:00). The Seminar, dedicated to cancer patients, family members, representatives of cancer leagues and patient groups, will open on Saturday afternoon, 9 October, with welcome speeches and keynote lectures, followed by a full day of sessions on Sunday, 10 October 2010. The Seminar will cover a wide range of topics, with the aim of encouraging direct interaction and communication between cancer patients and healthcare professionals. There will be a ‘nominal’ fee of 10 EUR to register as a patient group to the Patient Seminar.

ESMO Travel Grants for ECPC member organisations - Deadline 15 August 2010

We are also delighted to inform you that ESMO will provide 25 travel grants, 400 EUR each, to patient organisations to support the attendance at the ESMO Patient Seminar. To be eligible for a grant, you should be fluent in either English or Italian language. Preference will be given to applicants coming from organisations with limited resources and we will achieve a geographical spread. Each organisation can receive a maximum of one grant. ESMO and ECPC will jointly select the grants on an individual basis.

Deadline for application is 15 August, applicants will be informed whether they will receive a travel grant by 30 August 2010.

Please also note that ECPC will be holding its "ECPC Cancer Summit 2010: Making the Cancer Partnership work" on 13/14 October in Brussels. If you plan to attend the ECPC Summit as well, we would like to encourage you to use the travel grant to travel from Milan to Brussels to attend both important conferences.


Call for Posters - Deadline 30 July 2010 9 August 2010

In order to have an interactive Seminar and to promote an active participation in the conference, ESMO invites all patient groups and associations to submit a poster and a short abstract on outstanding rehabilitative programs, projects and or practices that patient groups might be undertaking at a local level.

The ESMO Patient Seminar Task Force will select 30 posters deemed to be more valuable and representative. This selection will be displayed in the foyer area of the Patient Seminar plenary room.

A further selection of 5 posters will be discussed on Sunday 10 October during the session "Living with cancer: long-term rehabilitation" (10:45-12:15)
All the submitted abstracts will be published in the Patient Seminar program book which will be distributed on site to all participants.
